ZYN Sold Out? The Main Alternatives, Compared

ZYN has been a genuinely difficult product to find on shelves at various points as demand outpaced Philip Morris International’s production capacity. If you’re looking for what to try instead, here’s a realistic rundown — not just a list of names, but how each one actually differs from ZYN.

VELO (British American Tobacco)

The most direct substitute in terms of market position and mainstream flavor profile. VELO’s strength range overlaps closely with ZYN’s (roughly 3–10mg), and it’s about as widely distributed. The main difference is pouch format — VELO tends to feel slightly moister than ZYN’s dry format, which some people prefer and others don’t.

On! (Altria)

On!‘s pouches are noticeably smaller and thinner than ZYN’s, which some users find more comfortable for all-day wear. Altria operates On! through its Helix Innovations subsidiary. Strength range is similar to ZYN’s mainstream lineup.

Rogue (Rogue Holdings)

Rogue is a joint venture between Swisher International and PLD Acquisitions, positioned as a value-oriented alternative — generally priced lower than ZYN or VELO. Flavor and strength range are comparable to the mainstream brands, without the ultra-high-strength options found in Nordic brands.

Lucy (independent)

Lucy is one of the few nicotine pouch brands not owned by a major tobacco conglomerate — it’s an independent company based in Las Vegas. For people who specifically want to avoid buying from Philip Morris, BAT, or Altria, Lucy is one of the only mainstream options that isn’t. It launched with nicotine gum in 2019 before expanding into pouches in 2020.

Nordic Spirit (Japan Tobacco International)

Stronger presence in the UK and Nordic markets than in the US. Nordic Spirit tends to sit at the upper end of the “moderate strength” range, making it a reasonable step up if ZYN’s higher-mg options aren’t enough, without jumping to the extreme-strength Nordic niche brands.

If you want something genuinely stronger than ZYN

None of the above brands compete with the ultra-high-strength category. White Fox, Pablo, and Killa sell pouches up to 20–50mg, aimed at long-time snus or heavy smokeless tobacco users. These are a meaningfully different product in terms of nicotine exposure and are not a casual substitute for ZYN’s mainstream strengths — see our nicotine pouch strength overview before trying one.

Choosing between them

If discretion and a slow, steady release matter most to you, VELO or On! are the closest match to ZYN’s core experience. If price is the deciding factor, Rogue tends to be cheaper. If you’d rather not buy from a Big Tobacco-owned brand, Lucy is currently the most visible independent option.
