ZYN vs on!: Which Nicotine Pouch Should You Choose?
ZYN and on! are the only two nicotine pouch brands with FDA-authorized products, as of the FDA’s August 2026 list, and both are dry pouches. The main differences are size and strength. on! is a tiny mini pouch, mostly in lower strengths, while ZYN is a larger slim pouch in 3mg and 6mg. Here’s how they compare.
This article is for adults 21+ who already use nicotine.
Side by side
| ZYN (classic) | on! (classic) | |
|---|---|---|
| Maker | Swedish Match (Philip Morris International) | Helix Innovations (Altria) |
| Pouch | Dry, slim | Dry, mini (very small) |
| Strengths | 3mg and 6mg (US) | Low strengths, from about 1.5–2mg up to 8mg |
| Stronger line | ZYN Ultra (9mg, 11mg) | on! PLUS (6mg, 9mg) |
| Pouches per can | 15 (moving to 20) | 20 |
| FDA-authorized | 20 classic products, plus ZYN Ultra | Some classic on! and on! PLUS products |
Size and discretion
on! is one of the smallest pouches on the market, so it’s very discreet under the lip. ZYN is a slim pouch that’s still discreet, but noticeably larger. If you want a pouch nobody can see, on! wins (see what is on!).
Strength: which is stronger?
At the same mg, the differences are small. Research suggests both deliver nicotine in proportion to their strength:
- In a 2022 study of on!, peak blood nicotine rose from 3.5 ng/mL at 1.5mg to 15.4 ng/mL at 8mg.
- In a 2020 study of ZYN, users extracted about 1.5mg of nicotine from a 3mg pouch and 3.5mg from a 6mg pouch.
In practice, on!‘s range starts lower, which makes it a gentle option for beginners or for tapering down, while ZYN 6mg suits more regular users. For more strength, both brands have a stronger line: ZYN Ultra and on! PLUS (see on! vs on! PLUS).
Flavor
- ZYN has 10 core US flavors, including Cool Mint, Wintergreen, Spearmint, Citrus, Coffee, Cinnamon, Chill and Smooth (see best ZYN flavors).
- on! has a range including mint, wintergreen, citrus, coffee and berry flavors.
FDA authorization
As of the FDA’s list updated August 21, 2026, all 43 FDA-authorized nicotine pouches come from these two brands:
- ZYN: 20 classic products (10 flavors in 3mg and 6mg), authorized in January 2025, plus ZYN Ultra products in 2026.
- on!: six on! PLUS products (Mint, Tobacco and Wintergreen in 6mg and 9mg), plus several classic on! products, including Autumn Spice, Cappuccino and Rich Berry.
Only the specific products on the list are authorized (see is ZYN FDA approved?).
Which should you choose?
- Choose on! if you want the smallest, most discreet pouch, or a very low strength to start or taper.
- Choose ZYN if you want a mid strength (6mg), a slightly larger pouch that some find more satisfying, or the most widely available brand.
Bottom line
ZYN and on! are both dry, FDA-authorized pouch brands. on! is smaller and starts at lower strengths. ZYN is a bigger slim pouch in 3mg and 6mg. Both have stronger lines, ZYN Ultra and on! PLUS. See also ZYN vs VELO and VELO vs on!.
