“Where are ZYN made?” and “is ZYN made in China?” are common questions. The short answer: ZYN’s US FAQ says ZYN is produced in Kentucky and Sweden. PMI has since added a factory in Aurora, Colorado, and ZYN for Europe is made in Sweden and Denmark. Here are the details.

Swedish Match, the company behind ZYN, says it “produces ZYN in the US, and both ZYN and other brands of nicotine pouches in Sweden and Denmark”. ZYN’s US FAQ says: “ZYN is produced in both Kentucky and Sweden at Swedish Match factories.”

Is ZYN made in China or Pakistan?

No. Based on the manufacturer’s own statements, ZYN is made in the US and in Scandinavia. If you see “ZYN” sold with unusual packaging, at an unusually low price or from an unknown seller, be cautious. It may be counterfeit.

Owensboro, Kentucky

Owensboro is ZYN’s main US factory.

• Swedish Match expanded its Owensboro plant between 2017 and 2019 to make ZYN in the US. The new facility opened in May 2019.
• In August 2024, Philip Morris International (PMI) announced a $232 million expansion. It said the plant would run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and expected about 900 million cans of ZYN capacity for 2025.

Aurora, Colorado

In 2024, PMI announced a $600 million ZYN factory in Aurora, Colorado. It said the plant would create about 500 direct jobs, with production ramping up from late 2025 into 2026.

According to the Denver Business Journal, the first ZYN pouches made in Aurora reached the market in September 2025, while parts of the site were still under construction.

Why the new factories?

ZYN demand grew so fast that in 2024 many US stores ran short, with some flavors hard to find. The press called it the “Zynpocalypse”. The Kentucky expansion and the Colorado plant were PMI’s response, adding capacity for the US market.
