What Is ZYN Ultra? Strengths, Flavors and How It Differs From Regular ZYN

By PouchGuide Editorial Team · Published September 26, 2026

ZYN Ultra is the stronger, moister line of ZYN nicotine pouches, launched in the US in June 2026. Classic ZYN is a dry pouch in 1.5mg to 8mg. ZYN Ultra comes in 9mg and 11mg, in a “hydro-boosted” pouch with a hint of moisture, and 20 pouches per can. In August 2026, the FDA authorized 11 ZYN Ultra products for sale.

Here’s everything you need to know.

What “hydro-boosted” means

ZYN describes Ultra as “a hydro-boosted nicotine pouch, meaning it has a hint of moisture for extra comfort and enjoyment.” That puts it between classic dry ZYN and fully moist pouches like VELO Plus or on! PLUS. Moisture generally helps nicotine and flavor release faster, which is part of why Ultra can feel stronger than the numbers alone suggest. See our dry vs moist explainer.

ZYN Ultra flavors

ZYN’s website lists 8 varieties, with marketing names such as Wintergreen Blast, Citrus Zest and Peppermint Frost.

The FDA’s authorized list (updated August 21, 2026) uses plainer product names. It includes these 11 ZYN Ultra products:

9mg: Chill, Citrus, Cool Mint, Deep Freeze, Menthol, Peppermint, Smooth, Spearmint, Wintergreen, Wintergreen Chill

11mg: Smooth

Marketing names on the can and product names on the FDA list don’t always match one-to-one. If authorization matters to you, check the can against the FDA’s list. At 11mg, only Smooth was authorized in that round.

Is ZYN Ultra FDA-authorized?

Yes, 11 products were. On August 21, 2026, the FDA issued marketing granted orders for the 11 ZYN Ultra products listed above. That brought the total number of FDA-authorized nicotine pouch products to 43.

An FDA marketing order means the FDA decided that allowing a product on the market is appropriate for public health. It is not a safety approval, and it isn’t the same as ZYN’s separate “modified risk” claim for classic ZYN. See our guide to MGOs vs MRTP orders.

Who is ZYN Ultra for?

ZYN Ultra is aimed at experienced users who find classic ZYN not strong enough.

It’s not for beginners. 9mg is a high strength, and 11mg is higher still. If you’re new to pouches, start with 3mg or lower (see our beginners guide and strength guide).

Switching from 6mg classic ZYN? Don’t assume Ultra 9mg will feel like “6mg plus a bit”. The moisture and pouch design change how quickly nicotine is released. Watch for signs of too much nicotine: nausea, dizziness, hiccups or a racing heart (see why pouches cause hiccups).

How to use ZYN Ultra

ZYN’s standard instructions apply: place one pouch between your upper lip and gum, for up to one hour, and never swallow the pouch. Use the disposal lid for used pouches. See our guide to how long to keep a ZYN in.

Bottom line

ZYN Ultra is ZYN’s high-strength line: 9mg and 11mg, a slightly moist “hydro-boosted” pouch, 20 pouches per can, and a lower price per pouch than classic ZYN. The FDA authorized 11 ZYN Ultra products in August 2026, including ten 9mg flavors and Smooth at 11mg. It’s designed for experienced users. If you’re coming from 3mg or 6mg classic ZYN, step up carefully.
