Grizzly Nicotine Pouches: What They Are, Flavors, Strengths and How They Compare With Dip
Grizzly is best known as one of America’s biggest dip brands. In 2024, its maker added Grizzly nicotine pouches, a tobacco-free, spit-free product aimed squarely at dip users. Here’s what they are and how they compare.
Who makes Grizzly nicotine pouches?
Grizzly pouches are made by American Snuff Company, an operating company of Reynolds American, the US subsidiary of British American Tobacco (BAT). That makes Grizzly a sister brand of VELO, BAT’s other US pouch line (see VELO vs VELO Plus).
Reynolds introduced Grizzly nicotine pouches in June 2024, with a nationwide rollout in the second half of that year.
Flavors and strengths
According to Tobacco Insider’s summary of the launch:
- Launch flavors: Wintergreen, Spearmint and Peppermint
- Launch strength: 7mg per pouch
- Can size: 20 pouches per can
- MSRP at launch: $6.89 a can
Since launch, retailers have listed additional strengths, including stronger options, and other flavors. Check the can for the current strength before you buy, especially if you’re used to lower-strength pouches.
Grizzly pouches vs Grizzly dip
| Grizzly nicotine pouches | Grizzly dip (moist snuff) | |
|---|---|---|
| Contains tobacco leaf | No | Yes |
| Spitting | No | Yes |
| Form | Pre-portioned white pouch | Loose or pouched tobacco |
| Main cancer concern | Much lower tobacco-specific nitrosamines | Tobacco-specific nitrosamines |
The difference matters. The National Cancer Institute says smokeless tobacco causes oral, esophageal and pancreatic cancer, and that its most harmful chemicals are tobacco-specific nitrosamines, which form when tobacco is grown, cured and aged. Nicotine pouches have no tobacco leaf, which removes most of that exposure. They still contain nicotine, which is addictive and affects the heart (see do nicotine pouches cause cancer?).
Is Grizzly FDA-authorized?
As of the FDA’s list updated August 21, 2026, no Grizzly nicotine pouches appear among the 43 FDA-authorized pouches. They’re nonetheless widely sold (see how the FDA review works).
Switching from Grizzly dip to pouches
- Expect a different feel. Pouches are smaller and drier than dip, and there’s no spitting. Wintergreen is the most familiar flavor for dip users.
- Match strength carefully. Heavy dip users may find low-strength pouches unsatisfying at first, but high-strength pouches can cause nausea (see pouch nausea).
- Use the upper lip rather than the lower lip where dip usually goes, to reduce swallowed juice (see top or bottom lip).
- Switching completely matters. Using both keeps the tobacco exposure.

Bottom line
Grizzly nicotine pouches are the tobacco-free, spit-free version of America’s best-known dip brand, made by American Snuff Company (Reynolds/BAT) and launched in 2024. They launched in Wintergreen, Spearmint and Peppermint at 7mg, 20 per can, and the range has grown since. They avoid the tobacco leaf behind most of dip’s cancer risk, but they still contain addictive nicotine, and they weren’t on the FDA’s authorized list as of August 2026.
