How Much Does ZYN Cost? Price per Can, per Pouch and Why It Varies by State
“How much is a can of ZYN?” doesn’t have one answer. The price depends on where you live, where you buy, and increasingly which ZYN you buy. Here’s what’s known, and how to compare fairly.
Typical ZYN price
- Average US retail price: about $5.50 a can in 2025, according to Tobacco Insider’s industry data.
- Price increases: PMI raised ZYN’s retail price by up to 50 cents a can in June 2024.
- Online and multi-pack prices are often lower per can than single cans at a convenience store.
Prices move, so treat these as ballpark figures and check local prices.
Why ZYN costs more in some states
State taxes are the biggest reason prices vary. According to the Tax Foundation, 20 states plus DC taxed nicotine pouches as of September 2026. Estimated taxes on a can with a $4 wholesale price range from about 10 cents in North Carolina to roughly $3.80 in Washington and Minnesota. New York added a 75%-of-wholesale tax in September 2026. See our full nicotine pouch tax by state guide.
Price per pouch: the fairer comparison
Can sizes are changing, so compare price per pouch:
Price per pouch = can price ÷ pouches in the can
- Classic ZYN has traditionally had 15 pouches per can. PMI says 3mg and 6mg dry variants move to 20 pouches per can in Q4 2026 (see ZYN’s move to 20-pouch cans).
- ZYN Ultra has 20 pouches per can and is positioned at a lower price per pouch than classic ZYN (see ZYN Ultra).
Example (illustrative, not actual prices): a $5.50 can of 15 is about 37 cents a pouch. A $6.00 can of 20 is 30 cents a pouch, so it’s cheaper per pouch even though the can costs more.
How ZYN compares with other brands
Many competitors sell 20-pouch cans, such as ALP, Rogue and FRE, often at similar or lower prices per can. See our guides to ALP, Rogue and FRE, and our brand directory for pouches per can. For cost versus cigarettes and vaping, see our cost comparison.
Ways to spend less
- Compare per pouch, not per can.
- Buy multi-packs from licensed retailers, if you use pouches regularly.
- Use a loyalty program if you’d buy anyway (see ZYN Rewards), but don’t buy more to chase points.
- Use fewer pouches, or a lower strength. The cheapest can is the one you don’t need. See how many pouches is too many.
Bottom line
ZYN averaged around $5.50 a can at US retail in 2025, but your price depends heavily on state taxes, which range from a few cents to nearly $4 a can. With classic ZYN moving from 15 to 20 pouches per can and ZYN Ultra priced lower per pouch, compare on price per pouch, and buy from licensed, age-verified retailers.
